Text Box: Advanced Seating Principles & Product Parameters: Balancing Postural Control with Function Course description: This module will focus on the clinical assessment and application of seating principles to address common problems associated with seating and positioning. These include posterior pelvic tilt with associated sliding out of the seat, kyphosis and forward lean, scoliosis and pelvic obliquity and how to accommodate asymmetrical postures, address abnormal tone, manage primitive reflexes and pressure management issues. The participant will learn to apply problem solving strategies to identify critical product parameters to address these issues. In addition, a comprehensive review of the various types of powered seating available to our clients, including tilt, recline, tilt and recline combinations, seat elevators and powered elevating leg rests will be covered. The features, benefits and concerns of each will be presented, including appropriate client criteria and appropriate clinical justifications. Various methods of independent access to powered seat functions will be discussed along with pertinent programming parameters and adjustments. Case examples will be utilized to highlight the principles discussed in this session. Clinical justification and documentation requirements will be discussed.
